Fashion retailer Zara has opened a new flagship store on Middle Huaihai Road in Shanghai.
Designed by Zara’s architecture studio in collaboration with Shanghai-based design firm AIM, the store aims to offer an immersive and contemporary shopping experience. The design combines industrial textures with warm, refined details to create a modern artistic atmosphere.
The new flagship spans approximately 2,000 square metres across five floors, featuring the women’s and men’s collections alongside dedicated spaces for shoes and bags, athleticz, Zara salon and fragrances.

In addition, the store integrates digital services and omnichannel capabilities, supported by an innovative energy management system that works to optimise resource efficiency. According to the brand, these features are intended to make the shopping process more seamless and efficient.

The new flagship store represents the latest step in Zara’s broader transformation strategy to enhance in-store experiences to retain customers amid competition from budget local eCommerce platforms. The brand is streamlining underperforming small outlets and focusing resources on large, experiential flagships at prime sites across China’s first- and second-tier cities.
Since January, multiple stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wenzhou, Changsha and several other major Chinese cities have shut down. Over 10 locations closed in 2025 for business restructuring, according to Xinhua News.
