YouTrip brings purple skies to Malaysia

Over the weekend, YouTrip brought mysterious purple clouds to Johor Bahru (JB) as part of its launch gimmick for its Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) wallet. Prior to the launch, viral TikTok videos with over three million views showed mysterious purple clouds sprawled across JB over the weekend (12 April). The brand later confirmed via an Instagram post that the augmented reality stunt was part of its reveal for the new MYR wallet.

To celebrate the launch, YouTrip will be offering free shuttle bus rides across the causeway as well. In addition to the free bus shuttle service, the first 5,000 users who make a minimum cumulative spend of SG$200 can enjoy 3% cashback on all MYR transactions. YouTrip has also launched its first offline retail partnership in Malaysia where users can enjoy cashback at partner outlets. 

According to the brand, the new offering was introduced to help Singaporeans secure the best exchange rates with no hidden fees or foreign exchange (FX) markups, the wallet allows users to exchange and store MYR directly within the YouTrip app – offering convenience and helping users maximise their budget for trips to Malaysia.

"At YouTrip, we are dedicated to providing users with a seamless and rewarding cross-border payment experience. We’re excited to offer our users greater control and flexibility with the ability to lock in MYR exchange rates through our in-app wallet," said Kelvin Lam, chief operating officer at YouTrip.

YouTrip is no stranger to out-of-the-box campaigns. In September last year, the company gave away exclusive outfits and blindboxes to Labubu enthusiasts in Singapore. The giveaway campaign came as Labubu gained popularity as a bag charm. The brand unveiled an exclusive limited-edition explorer-themed outfit for the furry monster. The outfit, completely decked out in purple, featured a bucket hat, a set of overalls and a white cotton t-shirt.

Prior to that, YouTrip launched its first major brand campaign to celebrate Singaporeans' travel aspirations by encouraging them to sing along to save on their next trip. The campaign featured a catchy soundtrack and vibrant visuals that brought the YouTrip brand personality to life.
