India – WPP's JWT has acquired a majority stake in India-based digital agency Hungama Digital Services, in a bid to expand JWT’s digital offerings in the market.
Hungama Digital Services, the digital and promotions marketing division of Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, has been a key player in India's fast-changing digital marketing landscape for the past 13 year. With its majority stake in the company, JWT India hopes to tap into the fast-growing digital market.
India is seeing a sharp increase in digital advertising, overtaking Indonesia as the second-largest Facebook nation in the world. According to a research by GroupM, digital ad spend in the country is expected to see a 35% growth this year.
JWT Asia Pacific has been heavily investing in the digital frontier, with the company acquiring Indonesian digital agency Magnivate earlier.
"The idea of the partnership is to build a digital offering for our clients so we can live up to being a ‘single source' partner across all their ‘marketing solutions' needs," Colvyn Harris (pictured), CEO of JWT India, said.
Michael Maedel, president of JWT Asia Pacific, added that the company has been expanding its digital capability in the region and will continue to do so.
"JWT will continue to hire new digital experts and explore possible acquisitions across the region this year," he added.
