Wonda Coffee uses colourful cups to showcase unity despite diversity

Wonda Coffee has brewed up a campaign about unity despite diversity in the most unexpected and cheeky way. To celebrate 64 years of being a multicultural country, Wonda Coffee partnered with Naga DDB Tribal for a film addressing colour discrimination by featuring cups of different colours, shapes and sizes. The campaign will run until Malaysia Day on 16 September 2021 primarily across digital platforms.

Naga DDB Tribal's chief creative officer, Alvin Teoh, explained that the thought of spreading the message of equality and unity in such a playful manner was too good an opportunity not to take. When the idea took shape, the team scribbled and doodled on a mahjong paper and presented it as is. "And do think that the brief came via a random phone call at 10 pm the client felt inspired with a thought. It was so contagious, we caught the spirit of it all and had fun all the way, from brainstorm to production," he said.

According to him, some of the nicest work happens when one does not "crumble from overthinking things". "In a world obsessed with data, there is still a critical role for intuition," he added. Wonda Coffee will also be launching a series of four mini films under the same campaign. Each film will be a heartfelt message for specific shaped and coloured cups - enforcing the message that despite their differences, they can still be "Wonda-ful" together. Wonda Coffee told A+M that it hopes the campaign will continue to build relevance and drive the brand's top of mind preference amongst Malaysians. D Moving Pictures was also involved in the video.

Separately, brands are also celebrating Merdeka Day in their own ways. Jacob's, for example, launched its #GerakanKebaikan64 Merdeka campaign featuring a stop-motion series of figures working out in various exercises as well as an Instagram AR filter. Meanwhile, Shopee Malaysia held a contest which saw employees creatively incorporating the four colours of the Malaysian flag in their submissions.
