What to expect from the new ViuTVsix English channel

PCCW-owned free TV channel ViuTV has launched its new English channel ViuTVsix at 7am today (March 31), to offer 17 hours of English programming a day, including three to four hours of news and public affairs, lifestyle, overseas dramas and documentaries.Michael Ting, head of revenue, free TV at ViuTV, told Marketing that the channel targets experts and professionals, and provides fewer local productions compared to its Chinese counterpart ViuTV, but will have a richer selection of news content, including from Reuters, CNN, Deutsch Welle, NHK World and Al Jazeera.The channel will also bring HBO original series to Hong Kong viewers, including Entourage, True Blood and Boardwalk Empire.Ting said the channel has more than a dozen hours of programmes per day so far. "Foreign programmes will be one of our greatest assets," he added.Ting also explained that viewership numbers are "growing positively", and advertisers have shown interest and support in ViuTVsix. "The launch of our new English channel will be a new opportunity," he said.
