Vietnam’s electric vehicle (EV) firm VinFast is sharpening its focus on the Indonesian market, signing partnerships with 20 new dealership groups during the 2025 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). The move accelerates its plan to open 85 showrooms nationwide by the end of next year.

The Nasdaq-listed manufacturer is rapidly cementing its presence in Indonesia, a market it only formally entered last year. The new partners include a mix of established names in the local automotive industry, such as Auto Green AAS, Bimmeroom Mobil Indonesia, and Ivan Djaja Mandiri - companies chosen for their track record and strategic foothold across key urban and provincial regions.

The 20 new dealership partners are slated to operate 38 showrooms by the end of 2026, while VinFast’s existing partners will contribute a further 23, bringing the expected nationwide tally to 85. The company’s growing retail footprint will span 41 cities across 19 provinces.

“With VinFast's comprehensive support for our dealership partners, we are committed to ensuring that every customer in Indonesia will always experience professional consulting services and outstanding after-sales policies, providing absolute peace of mind when purchasing and owning a vehicle,” said Kariyanto Hardjosoemarto (pictured, centre), CEO of VinFast Indonesia.

Dealers, too, are bullish on the prospects. “As a strategic partner of VinFast, we are proud to contribute modern infrastructure, superior capabilities, established reputation, and deep understanding of the Indonesian market,” said Ivan Farrel Djayaprawira, director of Ivan Djaja Mandiri. “Joining VinFast in its journey to accelerate the global green revolution, we have strong confidence in the explosive potential of electric vehicles and VinFast’s prospects here.”

VinFast has built early momentum in Indonesia by offering a broad range of models in popular segments - from compact crossovers to city EVs - including the VF 3, VF 5, VF 6, VF e34, and the newer VF 7. The company also pairs its product offering with aggressive incentives such as 0% interest financing and complimentary charging at V-GREEN stations.

While competition in Indonesia’s nascent EV sector is intensifying - especially from Chinese brands - VinFast is betting that localisation, after-sales reliability, and a deep physical retail network will give it an edge.

As it scales, VinFast says it remains committed to training its dealer staff to global standards, offering technical and customer support that aligns with the company’s international benchmarks.

The brand’s rapid expansion comes as Indonesia aims to become a regional hub for electric mobility, backed by government targets and rising consumer awareness. But with infrastructure challenges and a still-developing EV ecosystem, execution will be critical.

Indonesia’s EV market continues to gather pace, with total sales surging 43.4% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, according to PwC’s Electric Vehicle Sales Review. The report notes that 27,616 EVs were sold in Q1 - up from 19,260 units during the same period last year.

The country aims for 20% of locally produced vehicles to be electric by 2025, targeting 2.1 million electric motorcycles and 400,000 electric cars on the road. The government is backing this push with tax incentives, charging infrastructure, and efforts to attract domestic and foreign investment into the EV sector.
