Vidio has launched a movie rental feature in Indonesia, expanding its partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment to offer audiences on-demand access to Hollywood films and Indonesian theatrical releases.
Available on the Indonesian streaming platform, Vidio Rental allows viewers to rent individual films. The transactional model gives users an alternative to accessing premium films through the platform’s existing content offering.
Titles available through the feature include Spider-Man: Brand New Day, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and Goat. Vidio also plans to expand its catalogue with titles from franchises such as Resident Evil and Jumanji.

The rental offering spans genres including action, drama, comedy, romance, science fiction, thrillers, family films and adventure. According to Vidio, the service will also provide early access to first-run theatrical releases in Indonesia and direct-to-stream premieres.
Dhini W Prayogo, SVP of content acquisition and partnership at Vidio, said the launch responds to evolving audience preferences for greater flexibility in accessing entertainment.
“We continue to see the way audiences consume entertainment evolve, with viewers increasingly looking for greater flexibility and choice especially Hollywood blockbuster films. By bringing Sony Pictures Entertainment’s one of major studios to Vidio, we are significantly elevating our premium film lineup. We are thrilled to unlock early access for our users, empowering them with the ultimate freedom to experience the blockbuster content they love, sooner than ever,” Prayogo said.
The expanded partnership builds on Vidio’s existing relationship with Sony Pictures Entertainment, with the latter making a broader selection of newer titles available through the rental service.
“We are pleased to build on our existing relationship with Vidio and expand the availability of Sony Pictures Entertainment films to audiences across Indonesia. By introducing a broader selection of newer titles through Vidio’s rental offering, we can further connect audiences with our content through a platform that understands local viewing preferences and continues to grow its diverse entertainment ecosystem,” said Adam Herr, SVP of distribution and networks, APAC, at Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Vidio said it plans to continue expanding the rental catalogue, with additional titles from other leading entertainment studios expected in the future.
The launch adds another layer to Vidio’s entertainment offering, which combines licensed content, original series, live television and sports. By allowing viewers to pay for individual premium films, the platform is also broadening the ways audiences can access its content beyond its existing streaming catalogue.
Recently, Vidio partnered with Disney+ to launch the Vidio Ultimate Disney+ All Screen Bundle in Indonesia, combining Vidio’s local originals, live television and sports with Disney+’s international films, series and APAC Originals. The collaboration also introduced a curated “Taste of Disney+” collection on Vidio, while plans are underway to offer Disney+ subscribers selected Vidio content, including original series and Indonesian sinetron.
