Universal Music Malaysia has named Joanne Wong to the newly created role of head of international marketing to lead the team in marketing, developing and unveiling international recording artists here in Malaysia. In her new role, Wong (pictured) will focus on growing the company's market share in the country and will report to MD of Universal Music Malaysia Kenny Ong.

Wong told A+M that she is excited to be working closely with the team by innovating and retaining Universal Music's position as a market leader. She also plans to leverage on digital initiatives for her marketing plans. Prior to her new role, Wong was head of marketing at events company Livescape Group for more than three years. Before that, she was with Sony Music Entertainment for more than 13 years, last helming the role of senior business development and promotions manager, according to her LinkedIn. During her time there, she was involved in the company's new business plans and sought opportunities for local artists by working closely with brands and clients.

Meanwhile, Livescape Group's spokesperson said the company has repositioned its direction and is currently working on a "next-normal" initiative moving forward. Its marketing efforts will be carried out internally and overseen by CEO Iqbal Ameer.

"We have pivoted our businesses aggressively during this period with some of our projects proven fruitful, hence there are no propositions to replace the role at this exciting juncture for the company," the spokesperson added.
