Uber will acquire the Hong Kong e-hailing taxi platform FlyTaxi (飛的) as part of its commitment to growing the taxi industry and providing greater economic opportunities for drivers.
The acquisition is part of Uber’s continued investment in Hong Kong's taxi industry and brings together FlyTaxi’s trusted local expertise with Uber’s technology and operational experience. It aims to accelerate the growth of the taxi industry in Hong Kong, and underscores the city’s role as a key regional mobility hub.
Following the announcement, FlyTaxi will continue to operate as normal and there will be no change for drivers and riders using the FlyTaxi or Uber apps.
FlyTaxi is a mobile taxi app that connects riders and drivers. Locally built, it was one of the first meter taxi e-hail platforms in Hong Kong and has been widely adopted by drivers and riders since its launch 13 years ago.
Estyn Chung, general manager of Uber Hong Kong: “FlyTaxi is a true Hong Kong startup success story and a pioneer in the local taxi space. We are thrilled to welcome Siu and his team. Uber has been investing in Hong Kong’s taxi industry for well over a decade, and this acquisition partnership reinforces our deep commitment to the city.”
“By combining FlyTaxi's local expertise with Uber's technology, we are empowering drivers to grow their businesses and continuing to give riders the exceptional experience they expect,” Chung added.
Simon Siu, founder of FlyTaxi: “Since we launched as one of Hong Kong’s first taxi e-hailing platforms in 2013, our team has been dedicated to modernising the taxi experience. What started as a local idea has grown into a platform trusted by hundreds of thousands. Joining forces with Uber is a proud milestone for our company, allowing us to leverage global technology to ensure the local taxi industry continues to innovate and thrive.”

Don’t miss: Uber HK celebrates 11 years of city stories with new campaign
Back in October last year, Uber Hong Kong launched an 11th-anniversary campaign dedicated to the stories and milestones that have defined its community, reflecting on millions of rides since its first trip in 2014. The campaign's launch also coincided with the Hong Kong legislature passing a long-awaited bill to regulate ride-hailing services under a formal licensing regime.
Also known as “11 years, always by your side” (11年來,一路都在), the campaign was done in collaboration with local creative agency Omelette Digital. At its core, the campaign celebrates the human stories behind every ride.
