Tourism Malaysia will be unveiling the new Visit Malaysia Year 2020 campaign logo during the Malaysia Open House celebration for Hari Raya Aidil Fitri between 21 to 22 June.Last year, the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry was forced to organise a competition to amend the current Visit Malaysia 2020 logo, which has come under fire since it was launched in January this year. Designed to look like a postage stamp, the current Visit Malaysia 2020 logo carries the tagline “Travel. Enjoy. Respect.”. It features an orangutan with its arm around a proboscis monkey and a turtle on the beach, as well as the Petronas Twin Towers in the background.Tourism Malaysia’s director general Musa Yusof also urged Malaysian media to support the Visit Malaysia Year 2020 campaign with “more positive news coverage” on the country. According to him, Malaysia’s tourism industry contributed 14.9% to the country’s GDP as compared to 10.4% in 2005. The current campaign is targeting 30 million tourists and RM100 billion tourist receipts.Earlier this year, Tourism Malaysia went on the hunt for creative and media agencies to work with for two years. It is also looking to run a nine-month advertising and marketing campaign in Europe.
