TNB traces Malaysia’s history through energy in Merdeka film

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is marking Malaysia’s national day with "Aku, TENAGA", a film that traces the country’s history through the lens of energy.

Created in partnership with Chariot, an affiliate of Naga DDB Sdn. Bhd., the film takes viewers through key moments in Malaysia’s journey, beginning in 19th-century Malaya before independence and continuing through the country’s transformation over the decades.

Rather than focusing solely on historical milestones, the film uses energy as a constant thread connecting different periods of Malaysia’s development. Scenes depict the challenges, progress and moments of togetherness that have shaped the nation, positioning energy as a force that has accompanied Malaysians through each stage.

Directed by Quek Shio Chuan of Reservoir World, “Aku, TENAGA” is now live across TNB’s digital platforms, including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.

TNB’s head of group corporate communications Samsul Ariffin bin Zainuddin said the film aims to offer a different perspective on Malaysia’s journey by portraying energy as a constant presence through the country’s milestones and challenges.

“This film offers a meaningful perspective on Malaysia’s journey by portraying energy as a constant force through every milestone and challenge,” said Samsul.

He added, “Malaysia’s story has always been about its people, families building a better tomorrow, communities standing together through difficult times, and generations carrying forward the hopes of those before them. Through it all, TNB has been there, and we will continue to stand alongside Malaysians in every moment that lies ahead.”

The latest film follows TNB’s previous work with Chariot and Reservoir World on its Hari Raya campaign “Raya pertama”, which explored human connection and community through the story of a Chinese Muslim revert experiencing his first Raya celebration at his wife’s kampung. The five-minute film focused on how small gestures and everyday interactions can help strengthen bonds between neighbours and communities.
