Tesla has laid off its Singapore country manager Christopher Bousigues. Bousigues said on LinkedIn that his role was eliminated following Tesla's recent announcement of a 10% workforce reduction. Nonetheless, Bousigues said he is proud to have been the company's first country manager in Southeast Asia and establishing the business in Singapore.

In the past year, he worked with the team to build the business from ground up, launch the Model 3 in Singapore, set up two showrooms, one service entre, and developed a network of seven superchargers across Singapore. At the same time, Bousigues added that he also worked with the team recently to launch the Model Y.

"I wish to sincerely thank all those that have supported me on this journey. I profoundly believe that when a door closes, a gate somewhere else opens," Bousigues said. Since he relocated to Singapore for the role, Bousigues said a move back to Europe and Southern France is most likely in the cards for his family.

The company had about 100,000 individuals globally, The Straits Times said. Meanwhile, ST added that Tesla Singapore will not be replacing Bousigues' role. The automotive maker is also reportedly planning for its Hong Kong office to oversee the operations in Singapore. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Tesla and Bousigues for comment.

According to multiple media reports including Reuters, Musk said in an email to employees earlier this month that he has "a super bad feeling" about the economy and is required to reduce the company's salaried headcount by about 10%. He also told executives to "pause all hiring" globally. This came shortly after Musk told employees to return to the office or leave. Quoting Musk in the email, Reuters reported that Tesla has been "overstaffed in many areas".
