Tencent Sports acquires major European football properties

Sports fans in China can look forward to catching some of the best European football with Tencent Sports' securing the live streaming rights for the Ligue 1 Conforama, Serie A TIM, FA Cup and the Scottish Premiership from sports media rights agency MP & Silva.

The non-exclusive new media rights cover mainland China for the season 2017/18. The new deal will give sports fans the opportunity to watch five major European football properties, including the UEFA Champions League and Bundesliga, live on Tencent Sports and across its platforms.

Fans can catch six Ligue 1 Conforama matches per round (228 matches in total per season), and all 10 Serie A TIM matches per round will be shown throughout the Italian football season.

For the FA Cup, Tencent Sports broadcast the Community Shield on 6 August, and 40 live matches from the first to fifth round, as well as all seven matches from the quarterfinals onwards. The agreement also includes coverage of the Scottish Premiership that comprises 55 live matches for the upcoming season.

The French football season started 5 August, and viewership would certainly be bolstered by the most talked about football transfer this season in Neymar Jr’s move from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain.

In addition to live-streaming matches, viewers will be able to watch highlight shows and review programs. Tencent Sports will live-stream all matches and programs across all platforms, including its website, Tencent Video app, Tencent Sports app and Tencent news app.

Tencent’s editorial team will also provide the best clips and programmes to fans, in addition to the live streaming. Their eventual goal is to serve all football fans comprehensively, and bring Europe’s top football matches closer to the fans.

Tencent has also set up an online community, where fans can support their teams, get first-hand information, watch live matches, participate in quizzes for prizes and interact with other fans.
