Tencent brings Hollywood’s blockbusters to China

China’s internet giant Tencent has joined hands with two Hollywood studios, Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM), to bring the U.S. blockbusters online to China’s vast movie fan base.Under the deal with MGM, the online platform has acquired transactional video on demand (TVOD) and subscription video on demand (SVOD) access to the complete James Bond franchise from Dr. No to Skyfall, Spectre will also be made available through this partnership in the future.This makes Tencent to be the only China internet company providing the 007 titles online in China.The Paramount deal, which will come into effect from April 2016, also gives Tencent exclusive SVOD and TVOD rights in China for its upcoming feature films for 12 months following their theatrical releases.Titles covered include Star Trek Beyond, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, as well as recently released Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Terminator Genisys.
