Spotify features Siti Nurhaliza on Times Square billboard

Spotify has featured Malaysian singer and songwriter Siti Nurhaliza on the digital billboard in Times Square. Siti said on her Instagram that her appearance is part of Spotify's global EQUAL campaign that seeks to foster female equality by featuring female artists globally.

According to her, there are 35 EQUAL song lists or playlists covering artists from 50 countries and she is one of the representatives for EQUAL Malaysia and Singapore. Since 2019, four other Malaysian singers have graced the Times Square billboard before Siti - Yuna, Layla Sania, girl group Dolla, and Iman Troye. Meanwhile, other artists listed on EQUAL Malaysia and Singapore include Jasmine Sokko, Marian Carmel, Shye, RRILEY, Zamaera, and Narelle Kheng. A+M has reached out to Spotify and Universal Music for comment.

Last September, Spotify said the EQUAL campaign amassed more than 120 million artist streams for a total of more than six million hours across 177 markets on more than 600 different playlists. In the last six months prior to September 2021, EQUAL's 35 local playlists racked up 29 million streams across the 117 markets. Its global playlist gained 3.6 million streams across 166 markets. Each month, one artist will be featured on the cover of their respective local playlist, in addition to receiving essential organic and on-platform promotion in their home country and beyond.

Last month, Siti was reappointed as the brand ambassador for household appliances company Cuckoo Malaysia alongside the newly appointed South Korean actor Lee Minho. Siti came on board in 2020 and fronted the campaign with South Korean singer Rain. She is also the brand ambassador for Shopee Malaysia and has been featured in the marketing for its monthly sales events.
