The ever-changing media landscape is forcing every industry player to be even more innovative. To say that the sector is in trouble would be an overstatement as evidenced by the outstanding media owners, publishers, and platforms represented at the Spark Awards 2020.
The media industry in Hong Kong is highly competitive. But Next Mobile and Apple Daily Digital have managed to defeat their competitors to be crowned the Media Owner of the Year and Media Brand of the Year respectively at the annual Spark Awards for Media Excellence in Hong Kong.
Both of them walked away with the one and only prize and scooped a total of 11 gold awards,11 silver and four bronze awards.
A number of campaigns met with success, including Apple Daily Digital - 1 click subscription, Apple Daily Charity Fund “Have a Better Life 2019-2020, Apple Daily Digital - Launch of Fruit Gym App, Fruit Gym x Nike Hong Kong “Nike Home Sweat Home, Eat & Travel x Dondonya x Sanrio: Collaboration on Gudetama, and Apple Daily Digital, to name a few.
The Apple Daily Digital campaign was one of the company's most successful campaigns. In this campaign, Apple Daily Digital aimed at providing a convenient, entertaining and educational experience for its customers, while increasing its brand proposition.
To offer more convenience to customers, Apple Daily Digital accommodates every type of content in one single app. Apart from daily news, Apple Daily Digital also offers soft content such as health and wellness, parenting, travel, dining and home cooking, sports, overseas properties, and fashion and beauty.
Different types of e-books with festive themes and hottest topics are available for subscribers to view online as well.
Apple Daily Digital also overhauled its subscription function which allows users to subscribe to Apple Daily’s services in the app with easy login methods. An interactive game and an easy-to-search function are also featured in the app to increase time spent and frequency of use.
Apple Daily Digital has seen impressive results. It recorded 7.93 million downloads on Android and 4.35 million on iOS.
Another campaign that has achieved outstanding results is Apple Daily Digital – Fruit Gym App. Targeting fitness enthusiasts, the app aims at providing informative, entertaining, handy and educational content, similar to the majority of paid fitness apps in Hong Kong.
The app delivers live fitness insights and class content for users, while they can also interact with trainers instantly.
Interactive elements are the keys to its success. It offers live streaming sessions for users and trainers. At the same time, users can review demonstration videos for revision, practicing and self-learning based on their schedules. As a social platform, Fruit Gym App also allows users to train with friends.
The Fruit Gym App has already amassed 15,000 active users after launching for only two months. About 170,000 users have spent time on the app with over 5,600 of them spending more than half an hour.
