
Social and online platforms among most talked about in Indonesia

YouGov has released its 10 most-improved brands for the past year in Indonesia. This year's Best Buzz Rankings 2021 improvers list was topped by TikTok which had a 12.5 change in points, followed by Telegram with a 9.6 change. According to the chart, many Indonesian-based firms such as Tokyopedia (+9.1), Cimory (+8.6), DANA (+5.1) and Sasa (+4.7) saw strong improvements to their scores.
According to YouGov, the improvers chart ranks the brands with the highest increases in "Buzz Rankings" when comparing scores in years 2020 and 2021.
Other brands that made it to the chart include ShopeePay (+6.1) and Netflix (+5.2), which were the fifth and sixth most improved respectively. Completing the top 10 most improved brands was GrabCar (+4.7), and Xiaomi (+4.5).
Meanwhile, Shopee once again topped the charts for YouGov's annual Best Buzz Rankings 2021 in Indonesia, retaining its title as the most talked about brand in Indonesia for the year 2021. Indomie (64.7) came in second, followed by YouTube (61.8). Tokopedia (61.6) jumped to spots to fourth place this year.
Other domestic brands that were featured in the chart included Indomaret (55.7) in seventh place, and Gojek (54.6) in ninth place. While YouTube moved up a spot this year, WhatsApp (56.8) feel from second to sixth in the latest rankings. Meanwhile, Samsung retained its spot in fifth place while Unilever subsidiaries, Sunlight and Pepsodent came in eighth and last respectively.
The rankings are measured by the public's perception of brands on a daily basis across a range of measures. According to YouGov, the annual rankings were compiled by using "Buzz Scores" from across 52 weeks of last year. It also takes into account the positive and negative chatter behind a brand for two weeks.
This was determined by the responses from respondents when asked questions such as, "If you have heard anything about the brand in the last two weeks, news or word of mouth". It also asks the respondents if the news about the brand was positive or negative. The results on the "Buzz Rankings" chart show the brands with the highest scores between 1 January to 31 December 2021. Whereas YouGov's "Buzz Improvers" chart ranks the brands with the highest increase in buzz, comparing scores in years 2020 and 2021.
