Social media campaign launched against The Edge suspension

After government suspension of The Edge for its reporting on 1MDB, social media campaign has surfaced, #AtTheEdge.

A coalition of media organisations will soon gather to contest the suspension on August 8, with the location yet to be confirmed, reported The Malaysian Insider.

The five groups are Gerakan Media Marah (Geramm), Institute of Journalists Malaysia, Centre for Independent Journalism, Reporters Sans Frontiers and the Foreign Correspondents Club Malaysia. The coalition has also urged journalists to sign in as #AtTheEdge during press conferences to show solidarity, said the article.

The campaign is receiving traction online. One of the supporters was Marina Mahathir, daughter of ex-premier Tun Dr Mathathir Mohamed, who posted it on her Facebook page as well.

The campaign is calling on Malaysians to demand for freedom of information on 1MDB.
