Singapore Airlines (SIA) has extended its title sponsorship of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix for another two years until 2021. The national airline first came on board as a title sponsor in 2014, and has subsequently continued the sponsorship. This comes shortly after Singapore Tourism Board revealed that the annual Grand Prix Season Singapore event will be extending beyond the track to four iconic locations for the first time. The race season between 13 to 22 September 2019 will feature precinct parties at Orchard Road, Clarke Quay, Kampong Glam, and Jewel Changi Airport.SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said that the Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore GP is a major event in the country’s sporting calendar, drawing huge crowds to view the Night Race and associated entertainment line-ups. “We are pleased to be continuing as title sponsor, and helping to further enhance both sports and tourism for the benefit of Singaporeans and visitors alike,” he added.Meanwhile, Formula 1 Chairman and CEO Chase Carey said as one of the premier events on the race calendar, loved by the fans and drivers, it is a perfect fit for F1 to work alongside the national airline of Singapore.“Singapore Airlines has been working closely with Formula 1 at the Marina Bay Circuit since 2014 and during that time we have seen brilliant races under the lights of an amazing circuit. We are looking forward to this year’s race that should, if the past eleven years is anything to go by, provide an amazing spectacle and a physically demanding race for the drivers,” he added.Despite the grid girl ban F1 implemented for its races in February last year, SIA responded to media queries months later in September that the iconic Singapore Girl will continue to play an “integral role” in the Singapore Grand Prix event. F1 said back then that it would end its practice of using walk-on grid girls in its races, as the organisation did not believe the practice is “appropriate or relevant” to old and new F1 fans across the world.
