Shopee Singapore is running its #ShopeeGivesBack campaign until 15 December as part of the Giving Week movement towards National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre’s City of Good initiative. Beneficiaries for the campaign include Children’s Wishing Well, Food from the Heart, and Habitat for Humanity Singapore. This runs concurrently with its two-week long Shopee 12.12 Birthday Sale.
In particular for Children’s Wishing Well, Shopee aims to grant the wishes of two children – Adilah and Jun Shen – and encourages consumers to donate to the cause. According to Shopee, consumers can give a gift to someone in need through “Coins for a Cause” or “Buy one, give one”. “Coins for a Cause” involves donating to a charity of one’s choice using Shopee Coins. With every coin donated, Shopee will match the amount in a bid to double the impact donated to the charity.
This is the second time the company is implementing this for its #ShopeeGivesBack campaign. The first round of “Coins for a Cause” was carried out in March this year together with Daughters of Tomorrow, an organisation that facilitates livelihood opportunities for underprivileged women, and supports them in building financially independent and resilient families.
Meanwhile, the “Buy one, give one” initiative is done in collaboration with Shopee Mall sellers and involves the purchase of useful food items such as rice and nutritious cereal drinks. Sellers will match each purchase with a donation of the same kind to Food from the Heart.
In a statement to Marketing, Tiger Wang, head of marketing, Shopee Singapore said this year, it wanted to step outside the traditional means of giving back to the community and look at how it can create an impact through more personal, human connections. As such, it decided to bring two children from the Children’s Wishing Well for a day of activities and get to know them better. Wang added that it is important for Shopee to use its position and voice as a market leader to bring awareness to causes that do good for the community.
Wang said that the #ShopeeGivesBack campaign has seen great reception, with more than SG$10,000 being raised for charity thus far. “At Shopee, we strongly believe in giving back to society. As an industry leading platform, we want to create a seamless and convenient process that enables our users to join us in making a positive impact on society. This festive season we hope that our users can stand with us and give back to a good cause, to help make a difference in the community,” Wang added.
