ShopBack Pay debuts in HK with Octopus as payment method
share on
ShopBack Pay has officially launched in Hong Kong, enabling consumers to earn and redeem real Cashback in-store at the point of purchase. As part of the launch, Octopus has been added as a payment option within ShopBack Pay, alongside Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay, making it easier for consumers to spend locally.
ShopBack Pay aims to drive online-to-offline (O2O) engagement, enabling Hong Kong's offline retailers to capture foot traffic as shoppers look for ways to support local amidst rising international spending. It also provides brick-and-mortar merchants with digital touchpoints to engage customers via a mobile platform, without the need to build their own apps.
For merchants, ShopBack Pay enhances customer acquisition and retention by giving merchants customer insights they can act on to drive sales. Cashback is only redeemable when shoppers return for their next purchase, ensuring merchants not only attract new customers but also convert them into repeat visitors — creating long-term value while keeping spend local.
In addition, ShopBack Pay allows consumers to stack Cashback with rewards from their preferred payment method (e.g. credit card points), giving merchants a powerful way to appeal to value-driven shoppers.
ShopBack entered Hong Kong in 2022 with its core online cashback product, enabling merchants across categories — from eCommerce and travel to food delivery — to engage high-intent users cost-effectively. Partners include Taobao, Agoda, Klook, foodpanda, iHerb, and more.
To date, a million ShopBack users in Hong Kong have earned HK$300 million in real cashback from their online purchases, according to the company. With ShopBack Pay now available in Hong Kong, users can use their cashback to offset purchases in-store at 500+ local outlets, including popular names such as Ten Ren Tea, Gyu-Kaku, Kabo Burger, Aboutea, and Sushi Express.

"ShopBack has grown rapidly in Hong Kong since launching in 2022. Just last month during 9.9, we saw a 30% year-on-year increase in sales driven to merchants and brand partners. The launch of ShopBack Pay gives savvy shoppers a smarter way to stretch their spending, while supporting local merchants — it’s a win-win," said Julian Foo, general manager of financial services at ShopBack.
"At Octopus, we're all about making local spending simple and rewarding. In partnership with ShopBack, shoppers are offered more payment options while enjoying generous rewards. This not only helps local merchants strengthen their existing customer base but also drives local retail market growth," said Edwin Lai, general manager, retail business and partnership of Octopus.
The Hong Kong launch further strengthens ShopBack’s payment rewards footprint, complementing its presence in Singapore, Australia, and Malaysia, where 20,000 merchant outlets are already onboarded.
