Sea (Thailand), a leading internet platform provider, including Garena, Shopee, and Monee, partnered with the Institute of Board Game for Learning to host the second annual “Wishlist Thailand Tournament 2025”.

The tournament continued to foster personal financial skills, build financial resilience, and expand the reach of the “Wishlist: Allocate Money, Fulfill Your Dreams” board game to students, teachers, and parents.

This year’s competition was broadened to youth, families, and the general public, with a total prize pool of over 50,000 Baht, along with prestigious trophies. The final round took place recently at EmSphere shopping mall in Bangkok.

Puttawan Suphataranant, corporate communications director at Sea (Thailand), said: “In a world challenged by economic uncertainty, instilling financial skills from a young age is fundamental to building sound financial habits and resilience.

“This aligns with the organisation for economic co-operation and development guidelines, which recommends embedding financial education in school curricula.

“Together with our partners Wizard of Learning and the Money Coach, we developed the board game ‘Wishlist: Allocate Money, Fulfill Your Dreams’ to offer a fun, accessible, and hands-on learning tool that provides real-life simulations to strengthen financial skills and decision-making abilities.

“We expanded on this by organising the second annual Wishlist Thailand Tournament. Our focus was on ‘availability and expansion’, and reaching a wide audience of youth, families, and the general public by teaching fundamental financial concepts to build appropriate and sustainable financial attitudes and behaviours which benefit individuals in the long term. This year, we had over 100 participants from four regions across Thailand.”

The Wishlist Thailand Tournament 2025 finals were held at EmSphere in Bangkok, with the competition expanded this year to include three categories: student representatives (high school level), the general public, and families. This broadened format provided a creative and engaging way for youth, families, and the public to learn financial skills through board game play.

The student representatives (high school level) category welcomed over 86 schools from four regions in Thailand, with the top 40 schools advancing to the final round. The general public category, open to all ages, saw over 60 participants. In addition, the special family category was introduced for the first time this year, allowing elementary school students to compete alongside family members, aiming to use the game as a natural starting point for financial conversations within a family.

The tournament also received support from partner organisations dedicated to advancing financial literacy, including the Bank of Thailand, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, the Office of Insurance Commission, the Board Game Designers and Publishers Association, TK Park, the Thailand Board Game Association, and Wizards of Learning.

The event featured knowledge-sharing sessions and the panel discussion – “Elevating financial resilience for Thais: The power of board games utilisation.”

Panellists included Chantida Puaratana-aroonkorn, deputy director, financial consumer protection and financial service provider supervision department, Bank of Thailand; Jessada Wannakhejor, director of corporate communications, Office of Insurance Commission; Duanpen Chansirisri, vice president-head of public education department, Stock Exchange of Thailand; and Puttawan Suphataranant, corporate communications director, Sea (Thailand).

Another engaging panel discussion – “Financial lessons simply start with playing board games at home and school” – featured Jakkapong Mespan (The Money Coach), Romkloao Changnoi, a teacher at Thepsakaprachasan School, and Rittichai Chomummarit, youth co-ordinator at the Chiangdao Learning City Project.

They shared insights on communicating financial concepts to youths and within families in an easy-to-understand way, providing attendees with practical knowledge and inspiration.

Additional game elements such as unexpected expenses, sudden increases in the cost of living, and credit options, were introduced to help young players navigate realistic financial situations. These features encouraged players to develop a deeper understanding of financial tools and to adopt healthy financial habits early on.

For instance, credit can be a powerful financial tool – used responsibly it can support essential needs such as buying a home or funding daily living. However, without proper planning for repayments, it can easily become a long-term burden. Our goal was to instil this awareness from a young age, helping the next generation grow into financially capable and resilient adults.

The event also featured a “Wishlist: Allocate Money, Fulfill Your Dreams” board game trial zone, which served as a learning space for children, youth, and families to experience the financial board game first-hand. This gave parents a natural opportunity to talk about and give advice on financial matters with their children. Additionally, there were activity booths from various partners offering creative educational experiences.

The financial board game “Wishlist: Allocate Money, Fulfill Your Dreams” builds knowledge and understanding of key financial concepts and helps players apply them to real life through its game mechanics. It covers topics such as income management, spending prioritisation, cash flow control, debt management, and generating additional income.

By simulating real-life financial scenarios, the game provides a fun and practical platform for players to develop effective financial planning skills and adopt responsible financial behaviours that can improve long-term quality of life.

To date, the Wishlist board game has been distributed to over 500 schools, learning centres, and leading board game stores across Thailand. It is also available in a Print & Play format via seaacademy.com, where it has already had over 2,000 downloads and a reach of more than 180,000 individuals nationwide.

In addition, Wizard of Learning, co-developer of the board game, is making the Wishlist game available for purchase to broaden access across all segments of society, from educational institutions and learning organisations to teachers and parents. Those interested can find more information via the official Facebook page of Wizard of Learning or at SE-ED Book Center, the game’s official distributor.

The Wishlist Thailand Tournament 2025 not only reaffirmed the role of board games as inclusive educational tools that resonate across all age groups, it also highlighted the power of cross-sector collaboration in nurturing financial resilience from an early age.

Through fun, accessible, and practical learning, Sea (Thailand) and its partners are committed to embedding financial literacy as a lifelong skill. They believe that financial education should begin at home, extend into classrooms, and ripple throughout society – laying the foundation for a financially savvy and sustainable future.
