SDMC proves itself as a SEO expert at DigiZ Awards 2022

SDMC has blitzed the competition and took home the silver award in the category of Best Effective Search Campaign at DigiZ Awards 2022. As a full-scope digital marketing agency, SDMC has earned a healthy reputation for being able to dissect search engine information and user behavior through the insight of “big data” from the digital market.

They have done an excellent job last year in executing an effective SEO marketing strategy for a newly established news site WavingCat, helping them capture and convert organic traffic by using tested approaches.  

Positioning itself as a platform to help people make smart financial decisions, WavingCat is a startup finance news publication site which provides a broad range of coverage on social hot topics, property market, immigration, finance and cryptocurrency news. But, at the very beginning of the business, the platform mainly focused on offering readers the current blockchain and crypto market trends.  

The crypto craze went into high gear when the value of Bitcoin and other digital coins skyrocketed in 2017. Terms like blockchain, cryptocurrency and NFT seemed to be everywhere at that time. As such, news media sites related to blockchain and crypto were springing up in Hong Kong and all over the world. Some biggest news organisations in Hong Kong also expanded their coverage of crypto markets. Facing intense competition, WavingCat realised there is little chance for them to survive on search engine results pages (SERPs). They therefore appointed SDMC as their SEO agency to improve website ranking. 

“It is a big challenge when it comes to running a news media site. The most frustrating thing is that you have very good content but with poor website ranking. Without having a total SEO strategy, all your good content is meaningless because no one will ever see you,” said Chris Tam, director of SDMC.

By conducting competitive analysis, SDMC found that WavingCat’s content was limited to cryptocurrency news and knowledge, making it hard to capture the traffic from users who had various interests. To bulk up their website content, SDMC suggested creating content covering other topics such as overseas property, stock market, immigration and insurance.   

As a way to compete against other news media sites, providing diverse and engaging content is indispensable for increasing visitors' time spent on the site. 

To properly match searcher intent, SDMC conducted an in-depth keyword research and identified high-potential keywords to target for developing an all-round content strategy. “Our client has a team of creators who craft good content, but they are not familiar with the rules of SEO. What we need to do is to guide them to success with our expertise and resources,” Tam added. Even with so many competitors out there, he believed that a new site can still take a place at the top of SERPs by using the right approaches.  

SDMC’s comprehensive SEO strategy proved to be a huge success. Over the campaign period, WavingCat’s website traffic performance exceeded our expectations. The campaign drove a 2,900% increase in website traffic and WavingCat is now one of the popular crypto news sites in Hong Kong.
