Samsung has rolled out a video to showcase its phones’ 5G prowess by launching a live jam session performed by Cantopop band Dear Jane and Cantonese opera artist Christie To.

The collaboration, “Project S20+5”, featured a performance between the performers thanks to the technological capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Series and 5G. In the video, both performed a unique version of Dear Jane’s recent single.

The performance was shot entirely by 15 of the Galaxy S20s placed around both studios, as the performers played in different locations, delivering a performance which leveraged network speed, camera quality, and processing power in real-time.

“With 5G and the groundbreaking technology of our latest product, creative breakthroughs like this project will become the norm. We are delighted to be able to offer these opportunities to people and hope that proving the (Galaxy S20) capabilities with this campaign can inspire them to make whatever they are passionate about matter,” said Heidi Yao, head of marketing at Samsung (IT and mobile communication business).

The campaign leveraged a collaboration between music genres. Marco Lam, executive creative director of DDB Group Hong Kong, explained the idea behind the performance.

“As a big fan of local canton music as well as technology, I have longed for an opportunity like this to break the boundaries of music performances. It is essentially a new art form, realised by the coming together of cultural genres in sound and image, as well as technology,” he said.

“It’s been a great experience working with Samsung and all the outstanding music artists to create something genuinely unique and special.”

The video was launched on Samsung’s website earlier this week. It has also been promoted across various social media channels.
