Rubrik names new chief marketing officer

Data security company Rubrik has appointed Andres Botero as its chief marketing officer. Botero will be in charge of spearheading Rubrik’s go-to market strategies and growth initiatives as the company continues its focus on cyber resilience and the curation of cloud solutions that help global organisations protect their business data.

Botero brings with him over 20 years of experience in the data security industry, where his most recent role was chief strategy and marketing officer at BlackLine and was responsible for driving Blackline’s strategy and global marketing. Under Botero's five years of tenure, BlackLine more than doubled its annual recurring revenue (ARR). Additionally, prior to BlackLine, Andres was the chief marketing officer of CallidusCloud and Aria Systems and held leadership roles at SAP and Siebel Systems.

“Data security threats, especially ransomware, are some of the toughest challenges for which executive teams and cybersecurity leaders must prepared,” Botero said.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join this successful leadership team and to work with the company to accelerate our market strategies and growth,” Botero added.

Rubrik recognises the urgency to keep up with these highly complex threats, with Bipul Sinha, chief executive officer and co-founder of Rubrik stating that “Cyberattacks have become an inevitable reality, and as a result, organisations now recognise that cyber resilience is the only option to secure their business.”

“Botero’ experience creating and leading new categories, as well as building powerful go-to market strategies will help fuel Rubrik’s growth as we continue to define the future of cybersecurity,” Sinha added.

Data security has been becoming increasingly hard to achieve due to the surge in new artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and data in the move to the cloud. This means that datasets that need securing are on the rise.

In Rubrik’s latest report, results revealed that 90% of external organisations reported attempts by perpetrators to sabotage data backups during a cyberattack, and at least 73% were partially successful in these attempts.

Botero is the latest in a series of key Rubrik leadership appointments. Recently, the company announced two board appointments, one of which was John W. Thompson who was previously chairman of Microsoft while the other was Mark McLaughlin who was previously chief executive officer of Palo Alto Networks. Their new roles in Rubrik will be as lead independent director and board member respectively.

This April, Rubrik also unveiled the first members of its Rubrik CISO Advisory Board, who is chaired by Chris Krebs, the first director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). The board also includes cybersecurity experts and leaders from companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, and Schneider Electric.

Companies from different industries alike have been scouting for new additions to their company in efforts to accelerate their growth. Media service company Mindshare recently appointed its new chief data strategy and analytics officer Lionel Kho. In his role, Kho will lead data strategy and analytics in the APAC region. He will report to Helen McRae, the company's APAC CEO, as confirmed to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE.

Kho brings with him 15 years of experience as a leader in data, analytics and data science, having spent 12 years working in the consumer financial services sector. He most recently was at dentsu where he served as vice president, data transformation, at Merkle Australia. Prior to that, he held the position of group data and analytics officer at dentsu international where he developed and led the dentsu Australia market's data and analytics center of excellence.

Prior to this, Kho held roles in Isobar as its national director of data and analytics and at the National Australian bank as its head of analytics and insight. He also spent three years at Medibank where he worked as its product portfolio manager, bringing analytics to product design, product management and portfolio strategy.
