About 40% of employees in Hong Kong are planning to leave their current employers, while employee resilience also drops to a level that businesses need to take note of, according to a study conducted by Qualtrics.
The Qualtrics 2022 Employee Experience Trends report said only 59% of employees in Hong Kong planned to stay with their employer for the next 12 months. For employees, the top driver of staying with their employer was whether their career goals can be met. Being part of a company with a culture of belonging, feeling like the organisation has an outstanding future, and having their individual wellbeing prioritised were also important drivers to make employees stay.
While employee wellbeing remained stable in Hong Kong during another year of change and uncertainty (2022: 65%, 2021: 66%), employee resilience has dropped to 59%. Both findings highlighted the critical need to continue investing in and improving employee wellbeing.
“For businesses in Hong Kong to be successful in attracting and retaining talent in the current environment, they need to adopt new mindsets, and continue to define and iterate their new ways of working," said Lauren Huntington, employee experience solutions strategist of Qualtrics Greater China.
Qualtrics added that improving the technology experience in hybrid environments must also be a strategic focus for organisations in 2022. Only 19% of respondents said the technology provided can meet their expectations, with 48% saying it negatively impacted their productivity. Beyond helping drive retention, the Qualtrics research also showed that employees who were satisfied with the technology available were nine times more likely to be engaged at work.
Qualtrics advised that the importance of regularly listening, understanding, and acting on employee feedback cannot be underestimated. It added that by better and more frequently understanding the complete employee experience delivered, from the technology used through to levels of wellbeing and the drivers of retention, organisations can quickly and confidently design new and improved offerings to align with changing employee expectations.
"People’s experience at work, and the career decisions they’re making, are being influenced by multiple factors, meaning the ability to quickly and easily identify and respond to the issues having the biggest impact,” said Huntington.
