Seven has officially opened its new Melbourne headquarters inside the Melbourne Quarter Tower on Collins Street, marking a major upgrade in the broadcaster’s national infrastructure and its investment in sport and technology.

Prime minister Anthony Albanese and Victorian premier Jacinta Allan were among the guests at the official opening last night, along with communications and sport minister Anika Wells and Seven West Media executives Kerry Stokes, Ryan Stokes and Jeff Howard.

The purpose-built site houses 7NEWS Melbourne, Seven’s AFL, cricket and horse racing teams and a dedicated Sunrise studio. It features 52 kilometres of cabling, over 190 screens and one of the most technically advanced broadcast facilities in the country.

“Seven is part of the fabric of Australian life - informing us, entertaining us and helping shape the national conversation,” Albanese said. “This new purpose-built Melbourne headquarters is a major investment in the future of Australian media. It’s not just a home for journalism and unforgettable sporting moments, but also a symbol of innovation and ambition.”

Seven West Media managing director and CEO Jeff Howard said the move represented a long-term investment in people, content and technology.

“Our new Melbourne home is without a doubt one of the most advanced broadcasting facilities in the country,” Howard said. “It ensures we continue to deliver the very best content to our viewers now and into the future.”

The opening follows Seven’s move from the former Broadcast Centre Melbourne in Docklands, with 7NEWS Melbourne broadcasting its first bulletin from the new studio in May.

The facility includes a digital IP-based television system, full HD LED news set, non-linear editing tools, and a large-scale sports control room for major event production.

Seven Melbourne MD and Victorian Sales Director Peter Charles called the new space “a hub of innovation and collaboration,” and said it was already bringing teams together in new ways.

The opening was hosted by Bruce McAvaney and Rebecca Maddern, with appearances by 7NEWS Melbourne presenters and Seven’s AFL and cricket talent.

Seven spent some 23 years at its previous home at Broadcast Centre Melbourne in Docklands.
