Prenetics' CircleDNA onboards Fave founder Joel Neoh as new MD

Genomics and precision oncology company Prenetics Global has appointed Fave founder Joel Neoh to head CircleDNA as its new managing director. Additionally, Neoh will also be taking on the role of chief consumer officer of the group as it looks to further expand CircleDNA into a leading consumer preventive healthcare platform.

Neoh's appointment comes as the company looks to reinvent the preventive healthcare landscape, with a focus on harmonising consumer health and genetics, breakthrough technology for early cancer detection, and targeted therapy for cancer treatment. It is also looking to significantly expand into new verticals and introduce new, personalised healthcare offerings to consumers within CircleDNA.

"In all honesty, after my recent departure from Fave, I had planned an extended vacation and even organised travel plans through mid-2024," said Neoh in a statement. "Yet, life often surprises us. Casual chats with Danny Yeung, a close friend of over ten years, took an unexpected turn. The mission of Prenetics and CircleDNA thoroughly intrigued me. Realising the immense potential for us to positively affect people's lives, helping them to live healthier and happier, I made a conscious decision to shelve the vacation and join the cause," he continued.

He added that as an entrepreneur who has received "significant support", particularly in Southeast Asia, he feels a strong desire to contribute back to the community by promoting health and emphasising the importance of preventive care.

"The excitement I feel for this endeavor is immense. With a solid foundation of over 300,000 CircleDNA consumers already in place, I'm confident that we can expand this base to millions worldwide," he said before adding:

I'm learning an incredible amount each day about genetics, healthcare, new cancer technology, and the wealth of invaluable insights offered by our scientist community has been eye-opening.

On LinkedIn, Neoh added that he has been to multiple countries in the last weeks, engaging in conversations with countless healthcare professionals. "From scientists and doctors to Nobel laureate researchers and healthcare investors, I've immersed myself in their wisdom, capturing their insights to significantly broaden my understanding," he said.

"The current healthcare ecosystem primarily focuses on patients, but this approach proves to be both costly and often too late in addressing critical needs. We need to ensure people remain healthy long before they are labeled as patients," he continued.

Adding on, Yeung, who is the CEO of Prenetics, noted that he "could not be more thrilled" to team up with Neoh to address some of the most pressing healthcare challenges worldwide. "The healthcare landscape is undeniably complex, but I have unwavering confidence that with Neoh leading CircleDNA, we are poised for significant growth while positively impacting the lives of millions across the globe. Given that this year is marked by transformation, rest assured that there are more groundbreaking developments on the horizon," he said.

Neoh will be reporting directly to Yeung as part of the executive leadership team and will handle operations globally, according to Prenetics when MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out.

The news comes shortly after it was revealed that Malaysian fintech platform, fave’s co-founder and CEO, Neoh would be leaving the company on 1 March. The team will be led by the company’s other co-founder, Yeoh Chen Chow along with general managers, Avantika Jain and Aik Kuang Hen, who sit in Singapore and Malaysia respectively. As the most recent senior hire, Aik Kuang has held senior leadership roles in organisations such as iflix and WeTV SEA prior to joining fave.

Neoh co-founded fave in 2015 and grew it its current status of operation in over 50 cities across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and India as stated on his LinkedIn. The company experienced strong traction across Southeast Asia and was later acquired by Pine Labs for US$45 million in 2021.

He founded Groupmore, a Groupon clone, which was acquired by the latter in 2011. Neoh then stayed at Groupon until 2015. Before Groupon, Neoh co- founded Says.com, a social news network in Southeast Asia. According to his LinkedIn, he worked at Says from 2009 to 2013.  fave fully acquired e-commerce company Groupon in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia back in 2017, where Neoh worked from 2011. Noel said that today, one out of every three Singaporeans, and millions of consumers across Malaysia, Indonesia and India use fave on a daily basis for payments and rewards.
