A dating app for people engaging in polygamy has caused a stir in Indonesia. Titled “AyoPoligami.com”, the app aims to bring men and women who are willing to make “big families” together. This applies to single, married or widowed individuals, according to its description on the Google Play Store. In a conversation with Marketing, the app’s developer Lindu Cipta Pranayama said that the app has garnered over 56,000 members since its debut in April, with 35% of the app’s users being women. Pranayama added that there are currently no marketing plans for the app and that it is currently gaining awareness via word of mouth and message blasts via WhatsApp.The app has received mixed reviews on the Google Play Store so far. Out of 743 reviews, the app received 301 five-star reviews and 312 one-star reviews, at the time of writing. Some of the reviews, while praising the creativity of the app, also criticised the user experience and for promoting polygamy.Meanwhile, the app has also come under fire by women’s rights groups, who warn of a strong link between polygamy and domestic violence, according to AFP.Currently, the mobile app is pending an upgrade and is set to relaunch on 5 October 2017. It is currently only available on Android only, due to the higher rate of adoption of Android devices in Indonesia, Pranayama explained.
