Pickle Social Club dinks into fashion with Pestle & Mortar collab

Malaysian pickleball facility Pickle Social Club (PSC) has collaborated with homegrown streetwear brand Pestle & Mortar Clothing (Pestle Mortar) to launch the "Off the court collection", inspired by the culture of pickleball beyond the game.

The collection is based on the moments which define the sport beyond the scoreboard such as the casual courtside conversations, the pre-game rituals, and the friendships that form whether you’re there to compete or just hang out. It is also a collection made for those who know the best moments happen when they're off the court such as relaxing, connecting, and letting the game take a backseat to good company, said Pickle Social Club in a statement sighted by A+M.

The collaboration also came from a natural alignment between both of the local brands, PSC's founder Mark Choo when A+M reached out.

"At PSC, we’ve always focused on building a space that’s about more than just sport. It’s about community, connection, and good energy. Pestle Mortar felt like the perfect partner because they tell those same stories through fashion," Choo said.

"'Off the court' was really born out of that shared belief that the culture around the game is just as meaningful as the game itself," he added.

When asked about the timing of the collection's release falling in line with pickleball's speedy rise to popularity in Malaysia, Choo noted that it couldn't have been better.

"We’ve seen this amazing wave of interest in pickleball over the past year. People are curious, they’re showing up, and they’re staying for the vibes. So, launching a collection like this now feels right. It celebrates not just the sport, but the whole community that’s forming around it," added Choo.

As fashion and sports continue to evolve together as a bigger global trend of being lifestyle-driven, PSC sees its collab with Pestle Mortar as its own take on the wave, but through a distinctly Malaysian lens.

"These days, being active is a cool habit to have and it’s part of people’s daily routine, and that’s something we love seeing," Choo said.

"Naturally, people want to look and feel good while doing it. There’s a growing demand for pieces that are versatile— something you can throw on after a sweat session and still look put-together for the rest of your day," he added.

Choo also explained that although PSC would definitely benefit from this movement, it is also careful about staying aligned with it.

"We keep our offerings flexible, fresh, and lifestyle-driven because we want to be more than just a court, we want to be part of everyone's lifestyle," he added.

Meanwhile, the founder also shared that the company is always open to future collaborations.

Pickle Social Club had already been a part of several branded events, despite only being founded in 2023. This includes brands such as Adidas, CelcomDigi, OPPO event, Skechers, BMW and more.

The "Off the court" collection features a white tee priced at RM149, which flaunts a neon green and blue illustration of a pickle ball court, colours which are synonymous with the sport's balls and courts. It also includes a cropped white tee priced at RM129, a pair of cream court socks with PSC's logo priced at RM69, and a flat brim six-panel cap in cream which goes for RM139.

"Off the court" officially dropped on 5 April, and will be available while stocks last. Purchases can be made via Pestle Mortar's official website and flagship store in APW Bangsar, as well as at Pickle Social Club in KLGCC.

Streetwear brand Pestle Mortar has also been no stranger to the world of collaborations in Malaysia. Earlier this year milk tea chain Chagee collaborated with it to release a limited-edition collection, featuring bowling shirts, bucket hats and PMC's iconic tee.

The various merchandise features vibrant designs that pay tribute to the Malaysian heritage, including kampung motifs and majestic fauna that can be seen across the country.

Last year, it also teamed up with ZUS Coffee to release another collection of bowling shirts, socks and customisable oversized t-shirts. The bowling shirts and socks feature the brand's 'ZUS Buddy' such as Bean Boss, Blue Buddy, Choco Chipster, Frappe Fren, Pinky Boo and Porta Pal.
