Owner of Penang Foodie, Good Foodie Media, has launched an app named FOODIE+ in Kuala Lumpur and Penang, to support local eateries affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO). The app allows local eateries to list ongoing deals and offers for takeaways and deliveries at zero surcharge for eateries and consumers. FOODIE+ will also offer listings of ongoing promotions and deals by eateries. Besides Penang Foodie, Good Foodie Media also owns for KL Foodie, Johor Foodie, Singapore Foodie, Bangkok Foodie, Halal Foodie, and Foodie 大马吃货.
In a statement to A+M, the spokesperson said the idea has been in the works since last December 2019, when the company began recruiting a team to work on the app. In January, the team focused its efforts full-time on the app, which took three months and approximately RM100,000 to create. Initially created to offer "Buy One Free One" offers and 50% discounts to help eaters generate more revenue via dine-in consumers, the team reconstructed the platform to offer takeaway and delivery, the spokesperson explained.
From now until 30 April, FOODIE+ will feature a wide variety of deals and offers by notable eateries in Penang such as Tong Sui Po, Let’s Meat, Soul Cafe as well as eateries in Klang Valley such as Skillet at 163, Yellow Brick Road and Gajaa at 8. The spokesperson explained that FOODIE+ will revert to offering food deals only after the MCO. Currently, it plans to cross promote the app on its media channels, including but not limited to Penang Foodie and KL Foodie. The spokesperson said each page has close to one million followers.
Product manager Qua Mei Rei said the team is always trying its best to help local eateries around Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. "Starting off with creating hype for eateries, things to do, and events locally on social media platforms, we are excited to embark on this new journey. With our latest app, FOODIE+, we hope that we are able to directly connect eateries with consumers," she added.
