PCCW's new subsidiary MakerVille has plans on expanding content formats and cultivation. It will also establish the official MIRROR fan club in May.  The Hong Kong based media company previously said that MakerVille would be focused on content creation, artiste management and events, while providing ViuTV with innovative and quality content. It also has ambitions of exploring production partnerships and opportunities beyond Hong Kong. Although ViuTV is known for reality shows, MakerVille is planning to explore creative TV programmes of different formats and will launch its first movie Seer.

In addition to exploring creative TV programmes of different formats, the company will expand into new content such as movies, collaborating with Hong Kong movie directors Johnnie To, Yau Nai-hoi, Elaine Chu, Soi Cheang, and Vincent Kok. Moreover, MakerVille is planning to present even more TV programme. In addition to We Got GameI SWIM and Inevitable announced last year, upcoming creations include Dead EndInto the WildCoffee for the Soul and DisastrousHonesty currently under production. A number of programmes are under planning, including Beyond the Common GroundLeft on ReadSparksMillion Dollar FamilyZero Sum Game and cartoon series Excreman.

“MakerVille is a place for ‘Makers’ with a focus on content creation, artiste management and the events business. The company will continue to provide quality content for ViuTV to entertain the public, while exploring production and distribution opportunities in Asia and beyond to present exciting programmes to more viewers," said Lofai Lo, CEO of MakerVille.

Talent cultivation is also part of the company's vision. Its lineup of artistes and groups includes ERROR, P1X3L and COLLAR. In addition, MakerVille has announced the launch of MakeALive, a platform that connects with musicians, singers and artistes for large-scale concerts and entertainment events to be livestreamed online, enabling audiences to experience the excitement in real-time.

"We aim to bring together talent and partners, in production and performance, from Hong Kong and around the world, to make it happen here,” Lo added. Lo was director and general manager of ViuTV before but he took up the new position at MakerVille earlier this month.

MakerVille has also announced the establishment of boyband MIRROR's official fan club in May. Members of the official fan club are entitled to a series of privileges, such as an exclusive welcome box and the chance to purchase concert tickets, fan-meeting event tickets and exclusive merchandises. The company added that more details will be announced on MIRROR’s social media platforms. “We are very excited about the formation of the official fan club. We hope that this platform will bring us even closer to our fans to realise the idea of 'One and All'," said MIRROR's team leader Lokman Yeung and deputy team leader Anson Kong.

The popularity of MIRROR contributed to PCCW's positive financial results last year. It recorded a net profit of HK$1.04 billion in 2021 after a loss of HK$1.02 billion from the prior year, as many of its businesses enjoyed significant increase, including its free TV division and related business such as artiste management, event business, and increased advertising revenue.

Moreover, PCCW's free TV and related business revenue grew by 152% to HK$800 million last year with advertising revenue more than doubling to HK$615 million. It said in its annual reports previously, "Riding on the success of MIRROR as well as other up and coming artistes, our artiste management and event business flourished, with our artistes promoted 13 of the top 50 advertisers in Q3 2021. As a result, revenue from artiste management and event business increased almost tenfold compared to the previous year."

The top advertisers that featured MIRROR included HSBC, Walt Disney, Samsung, foodpanda Hong Kong, McDonald's Hong Kong, LG Electronics, Dettol, Deliveroo Hong Kong, Octopus, Shiseido, FWD, Manulife and Sun Life Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, ViuTV also strengthened its team with the hire of industry veteran and former PHD Hong Kong CEO Clement Chung.
