Paints company AkzoNobel sees 3 senior exits in SEA

AkzoNobel's spokesperson has confirmed to Marketing that there are three senior exits from its marketing team in Southeast Asia.

Doris Tan, head of professional marketing, decorative paints for Southeast and South Asia at paints and performance coatings company, AkzoNobel, is leaving her role at the end of August. Tan has been with the company for approximately five years and was previously marketing director at ITG-Green Technologies for more than a year, according to her LinkedIn.

Meanwhile, Arlene Tablan, director, marketing, AkzoNobel Decorative Paints for Southeast and South Asia is also moving on from her role in September 2019. Tablan has been with the company for approximately nine years, helming other roles including regional marketing manager, South and Southeast Asia as well as marketing director at AkzoNobel. Before that, she was with export company Sara Lee.

The company also saw head of marketing, decorative paints, Vietnam, Nguyen Cong Hai, leave in May this year. Nguyen was with the company for close to seven years and was previously with Diageo in Vietnam.

The spokesperson added that it has also promoted Shannon Quek (pictured below) to the newly created role of head of brand and consumer marketing, AkzoNobel Decorative Paints, for Singapore and export markets. Quek was previously the head of marketing for Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos for Dulux, a role which he helmed since September 2018.

In his new role, Quek told Marketing that he manages both the brand and customer service teams across the marketing department for Singapore and Export Markets. "I aim to drive premium mix brand adoption and increase profitability for my cluster of countries through best marketing and customer services practices," he said.

Prior to AkzoNobel, Quek was with a video commissioning platform known as The Smalls where his last role was head of strategic partnerships. During his time there, he oversaw new business and marketing for Asia. He has 18 years of experience in commercial, brand and marketing experience, including a stint at Moove Media where he was head of marketing, digital and new media. Quek has over 20 years of strategic brand and marketing experience across B2B and B2C industries. He also has more than 15 years of lecturing and corporate training experience in universities, schools and corporations.

In a statement to Marketing, Oscar Wezenbeek, managing director, decorative paints, Southeast and South Asia said there have been some changes in its marketing team. According to Wezenbeek, the marketing team across the region are a “solid team”, with many experienced and passionate members, who are diversified in expertise and have successfully managed various initiatives that benefit the company’s key markets.

“We thank the staff for their contribution. The successors for these positions are being selected and will be announced in due course,” he added.

Last year, the agency named MullenLowe Group its creative agency partner for its paints global marketing organisation. The partnership aims to deliver on the growth objectives and business opportunities of AkzoNobel’s professional paints activities. The news followed the group's appointment in 2018 as the global creative partner for AkzoNobel consumer paints.
