Olympian City showcases traditional Chinese clothing in CNY celebration

The pandemic has been preventing shopping malls in Hong Kong from launching events. However, some of them still hope to engage customers and roll out interesting activities, and Olympian City has curated a series of events to celebrate the festive season with Hongkongers.
Until 28 February, Olympian City is organising the Chinese New Year Cultural Extravaganza to create an interactive experience. Spanning 4,000 square feet and teeming with decor such as red lanterns, a small footbridge over a lotus pond, and a flowering peach blossom tree, the event offers a hanfu (traditional clothing worn by Han Chinese) exhibition with characteristics and backgrounds being explained by guides. The Chinese New Year Cultural Extravaganza will turn the atrium of Olympian City 2 into an old Chinese street. The recreated street features several shops including an inn and a fabric shop made from wood with red tile roofs. Big red lanterns symbolising reunion are hung from the structures, which also feature decorative windows carved with the Chinese character "blessing" to showcase the uniqueness of traditional Chinese architecture.
Photo-friendly spots in the mall include a lotus pond straddled by a small footbridge and the colourful lantern-filled street. A three-metre-tall peach blossom tree is installed and visitors are encouraged to walk around three times to bring them career success and romance in the Year of the Ox. Adjacent to the tree is an exhibition of Chinese New Year-themed paintings by multi-media artist Water Poon and ink artist TK Chan.
To further engage visitors, Olympian City has also created an AR hanfu fitting room. By using a mobile app or on-site tablets, visitors can try on simple or colourful hanfu and be "sent back" to an ancient era in just a few seconds. Adding to the festivities, visitors can also put on hanfu as Olympian city will roll out a two-day event allowing visitors to wear it and enjoy ancient hairdressing. A photographer will take photos for participants after the makeup, offering them a memorable experience during the festive season.
If that's not enough, the shopping mall will also launch a hanfu show kicking off at the mall while the models will head to Lee Tung Avenue at Wan Chai and Gold Coast Piazza at Tuen Mun.
Other activities in the mall include the Good Fortune Lunar New Year Market. About 20 booths are selling festive items such as from dried seafood, made-in-Hong Kong preserved sausages, gift boxes, traditional cakes, Chinese tea and teaware.
