Ocean Park unveils 50th anniversary plans for 2027

As Ocean Park gears up for its 50th anniversary in 2027, Ocean Park has unveiled a celebration line-up themed "Grow with nature" (動物與人.自然動人), symbolising the heartfelt connection between animals and humanity.

The 50th anniversary celebrations will focus on three signature areas: deepening conservation and education work, introducing new in-park experiences, and reaching beyond the Park to invite the community and tourists to take part.

Ocean Park has teased two animal exhibits set to launch next year: a new marine mammal conservation centre in January 2027 and a new panda habitat slated for completion in the third quarter of 2027.

To enrich visitor experiences, Ocean Park will continue channeling its resources and development into its vital conservation and education missions. It is developing a brand-new giant panda habitat to ensure comprehensive care across all life stages for its six giant pandas.

Ocean Park is reimagining and reallocating its existing facilities to create a refreshing environment for Hong Kong's giant panda family. The new habitat will feature elevated viewing platforms for close monitoring of the pandas' behaviour and health, and let visitors observe routine medical care training up close. It is expected to open in the third quarter of 2027.

Meanwhile, a new marine mammal conservation centre, rebranded from the former North Pole Encounter, will open in January 2027. Themed "Become a marine mammal ambassador and reignite hope for the ocean” (化身海洋哺乳動物大使,為海洋重燃希望), it will debut the skeletal specimen of the Eden's whale that washed ashore in Sai Kung in 2023, raising awareness of marine threats and inspiring reflection on living in harmony with nature.

The centre will also feature the park's stranding investigation and marine research achievements, and use dolphins' social intelligence to inspire conservation action. Immersive installations will urge visitors to confront climate change and pollution, cut single-use plastics, and build a healthier ocean together.

Collaborating with over 50 local original IPs

Elevating the visitor experience, Ocean Park is throwing its full support behind the development of local creative industries and cultural talent, bringing together more than 50 homegrown original intellectual properties in a celebration of creative flair.

This spectacular collaboration will roll out in two phases. The first phase launches this December, bringing popular local IPs - such as McDull, B.Duck, and Hong Kong Machines (香港重機), alongside the Park’s very own Panda Friends and Bulu Boo - to meet visitors across various corners of the Park.

The second phase follows in mid-2027, uniting creative artists and an iconic line-up of classic characters such as Old Master Q (老夫子) and Miss 13 Dots (十三点), alongside recent viral hits like Cheap Century and PLASTIC THING. They will be joined by government mascots including Big Waster, Anyone, Drainy, The Little Grape and more to evoke cross-generational cultural resonance.

In addition, the park has teamed up with legendary Hong Kong comic master Ma Wing-shing, and his classic epic Storm Clouds (風雲) to present an immersive live performance.

Water World's Q4 campaign

To mark the HKSAR's 30th anniversary, Water World will become a versatile entertainment venue in Q4 this year with two themed events. From November, Beats & Wave Fest (音樂狂熱季) will offer weekend-exclusive programmes including live shows, aqua SUP yoga, Roving Beats Band, KiDisco and the Smiling Boris Beyblade Battle.

In December, Tai Shue Wan Wonderland (大樹灣繽紛嘉年華) will launch with land-based and temperature-controlled rides, the Giant Animal Inflatable Kingdom, high-tech racing, laser tag, S.T.E.A.M. challenges and family stargazing camps, promising a surprising winter experience.

Inviting the public to share Ocean Park memories

To share the joy of the Ocean Park’s 50th anniversary with the entire community, the celebrations will extend beyond the Southern District through roving roadshows across the city. It has launched the "Ocean Park 50th anniversary memory archive" (海洋公園 50 周年記憶庫) and announced the "Nature & us · Ocean Park memories collection" (自然動人回憶賞) campaign, taking place from now until 15 December 2026.

The public is invited to submit their cherished vintage photos, video clips, written stories or audio recordings captured at Ocean Park. Selected contributions will serve as the blueprint for promotional videos or be featured on the campaign website, weaving the unique memories of several generations into the city’s growth imprint. Selected participants will receive Ocean Park annual memberships or admission tickets.

Paulo Pong, chairman of the board, Ocean Park Corporation, said: “Ocean Park has been an integral part of Hong Kong for half a century, bearing witness to our city’s charm, resilience, and the transformation and growth of generations. As we reach the milestone of Ocean Park’s 50th anniversary as well as the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR in 2027, we extend our deepest gratitude to the HKSAR government for its unshakable trust and support. This steadfast partnership is the bedrock upon which the Park continues to transform, innovate, and look ahead to the next 50 years.”

“Standing at this Golden Jubilee milestone, we are fully aligned with the HKSAR’s first five-year plan and long-term development blueprint. We will deepen and expand Ocean Park’s role as a top international conservation and education hub, fully supporting Hong Kong in amplifying its global influence in ecological conservation and education. By rallying the entire city, we aim to jointly champion global sustainability and enable our children to thrive alongside nature,” Pong added.

Rosanna Law, secretary for culture, sports and tourism, said: "Ocean Park is a cherished companion that holds fond memories for generations. The 50th anniversary honours not only fond memories of past visits, but also the park’s longstanding commitment to conservation and education. Over the decades, the park has achieved many remarkable milestones in animal care and conservation."

"Looking ahead, the government will implement ‘Hong Kong’s first five-year plan’ and, as part of this, develop Ocean Park into a conservation, research and education base. We will also bring the park’s expertise and experience to schools and communities, giving more young people opportunities to connect with nature and learn about conservation. With 2027 marking both Ocean Park’s 50th anniversary and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, I have every confidence that the series of celebrations will be extraordinary as we work together to continue building an inspiring future," Law added.
