With recreational facilities and fitness centres closed on government orders, many citizens have decided to exercise at home. To encourage citizens, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nike Hong Kong is featuring three local athletes in its latest campaign.
The campaign includes key visuals and interviews with boxer Rex Tso, high jumper Cecilia Yeung, and fencer Edgar Cheung.
Tso was planning on joining an Olympics qualification event in Paris next month – the last chance to qualify for the Olympics. However, the event has been postponed because of the current crisis. In an interview, Tso said he has been exercising at home for an hour each day to maintain his physical fitness.
“To me, ‘you can’t stop us’ means that we can still uplift ourselves when there are difficulties ahead. We can try our best even if we are facing adversity. We will survive after the pandemic,” he said.
Yeung, who is still recovering from an injury, said in an interview with Nike Hong Kong: “In adversities, I will try different methods and learn more to improve myself and address the problems. Also, we will be more alert amid the crisis and learn how to cope with change.”
For Cheung, the postponed Olympics gives him one more year to prepare for it. Though he prefers competing in the Olympics next year, he said he was worried about his good condition this year being wasted.
“It’s about self-discipline, and I can make even more effort to improve myself. What the pandemic has taught me is to never give up until the end,” he said.
