Netflix Malaysia dishes out trishaw experience for Stranger Things Season 5

The fifth and final season of Stranger Things is finally here, with the Hawkins gang preparing to face Vecna once and for all.

Over the weekend, Netflix brought the Upside Down to the heart of Kuala Lumpur as part of its "One last adventure" global fan event, despite heavy rain showers. From 27 to 30 November at Daily Dose Coffee @ Bangunan Getah Asli, fans flocked to the immersive "Stranger rides" experience, hopping onto trishaws inspired by iconic locations and scenes from the series. Each ride took them through settings like Scoops Ahoy, the Hellfire Club, and Surfer Boy Pizza, while also navigating terrifying encounters with the Demogorgon and Mind Flayer.

The standout feature of the event was undoubtedly the themed beca, or trishaws, each paying homage to iconic elements from Stranger Things that fans would instantly recognise. Highlights included a bright yellow Surfer Boy Pizza trishaw, a Hawkins and Mind Flayer ride with red neon lights and a Demogorgon perched on the roof, a sweet blue Hawkins ball trishaw adorned with snowflakes, a disco ball, and tinsel, and a battered Hawkins trailer van.

Other rides featured a Scoops Ahoy trishaw complete with a driver in uniform, a Mad Max arcade trishaw, a Starcourt ride topped with creepy monsters, and a Hellfire Club ride sporting denim pants and the club’s signature logo. Every ride was also fitted with Demogorgon heads—or flowers—on each wheel, adding a whimsical yet eerie touch to the immersive experience.

The location's surrounding area was fully transformed into the Upside Down, allowing fans to engage in themed games and challenges. Upon arrival, attendees received a One Last Adventure passport, encouraging them to collect stamps from completing activities such as beating Mad Max’s high score at the Palace Arcade truck, racing to complete a Demogorgon puzzle, and sampling treats from the Stranger Cendol and Surfer Boy Pizza trucks.

Despite the rainy weather, fans showed up in their Stranger Things best, undeterred by the downpour. The event offered a chance to celebrate the series’ finale, connect with fellow fans, and immerse themselves in the quirky, suspenseful world of Hawkins, proving that nothing could stop a true Stranger Things adventure.

While the trishaw ride on 27 November, the first day of the event, had to be cancelled, the rest of the activities went ahead as planned. Pre-booked visitors received a booklet to collect six stamps from various booths and activities, which could be exchanged for “something strange” at the Swag Snag booth. Exclusive Season 5 merchandise included a retro-themed poster, cap, sticker pack, and T-shirt. The team was prepared for the rain, providing Stranger Things raincoats for attendees, and limited walk-in slots were available for those who hadn’t secured pre-booked spots.

The Daily Dose space was fully transformed with vines, thorns, Upside Down creatures, and neon red lights, immersing fans in the eerie world of the cult-favourite show. As part of the campaign, Netflix Malaysia also collaborated with key opinion leaders (KOLs) such as Zac (@imzaczac) and Ravi Zephyr (@ravizephyr) to amplify the event and generate buzz.

The "Stranger rides" event falls under Netflix's global fan event for the season's launch, "One last adventure", which promises to be a fitting send-off for fans to celebrate the cult-favourite show in both real and virtual worlds. The activations coincide with the release of Stranger Things 5, which will premiere across three volumes: Volume 1 on 27 November, Volume 2 on 26 December, and the series finale on 1 January 2026.

Over in Thailand, Netflix has launched a rewatch campaign with a nostalgic twist: a recap of past Stranger Things seasons that audiences can listen to, rather than watch. Created in collaboration with VML Thailand, the "Stranger Things recap cassette", delivers an immersive, 1980s-inspired sound experience that retells all four seasons entirely through audio. Listeners would be able to hear the crackle of tape, the hum of streetlights, laughter echoing through walkie-talkies, and the iconic synths signalling that the Upside Down is near.
