MR D.I.Y. leans into price consistency message amidst rising living costs

MR D.I.Y. is reinforcing its long-standing “Always low prices” positioning with the rollout of its nationwide "Harga tetap sama" ('Prices maintained the same') initiative, aimed at keeping prices stable amid ongoing cost-of-living pressures.

Launched earlier this month, the initiative ensures that prices remain unchanged across a wide range of everyday products, offering Malaysians greater certainty as they navigate rising household expenses.

The move comes at a time when global inflation and increasing fuel costs continue to put pressure on consumers. By maintaining stable pricing across essential categories such as garbage bags, batteries, food and beverages, and stationery, the retailer aims to position itself as a dependable option for everyday needs.

To drive home the message, MR D.I.Y. also released a series of social videos. One carried the tagline: “Bagi kami rugi. Anda puas hati” (“Let us bear the cost. For your satisfaction”), while another read: “Harga tetap sama. Susah senang bersama” (“Our prices stay the same. Through good and tough times, together”).

Though simple and concise, these lines reinforce the brand’s positioning as standing alongside Malaysians, signalling support and reliability as consumers navigate rising costs and inflation.

Adrian Ong, CEO of MR D.I.Y., said the initiative reflects the brand’s understanding of how incremental price increases can impact consumers over time. “We recognise that even small price increases can add up over time. By keeping our prices steady, we hope to ease some of the pressure on households,” he added.

“Affordability is not a luxury; it is a daily necessity. We want our customers to know they can continue to rely on us for value, every day and that ‘Always low prices’ remains a constant in their daily lives," said Ong.

Available across all MR D.I.Y. stores nationwide, the initiative spans a broad assortment of products, from home improvement items and school supplies to daily household essentials. The retailer said the effort is designed to provide consistency and accessibility, while supporting customers in managing their budgets more effectively.

With over 1,500 stores across Malaysia and more than 19,000 stock keeping units, MR D.I.Y. has built its retail model on scale and operational efficiency. This allows the company to sustain competitive pricing while maintaining a wide product assortment across categories including hardware, electrical goods, furnishings, stationery and toys.

The "Harga tetap sama" push underscores a broader strategy to strengthen brand trust during a period of economic uncertainty, positioning price stability not just as a promotional lever, but as a core part of its value proposition.

As consumers continue to prioritise affordability, MR D.I.Y.’s latest initiative signals a clear intent to stay anchored in its promise, offering Malaysians a sense of reliability in their day-to-day spending.

Last year, MR D.I.Y. has turned product assurance into a playful marketing experience with its first-ever giant rice cooker pop-up in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.

The installation, part of the brand’s nationwide “Kini, produk MR D.I.Y. tahan lebih lama” ("Now, MR D.I.Y.'s products last even longer") initiative, invites Malaysians to step inside a 16-foot-tall rice cooker to experience the retailer’s promise of long-lasting, high-quality products.

Complete with rising “steam,” lively music, and family-friendly activities, the pop-up demonstrates how MR D.I.Y. is translating its value proposition into an interactive, attention-grabbing campaign.
