MediaCorp goes green with Saving Gaia campaign

Saving Gaia, MediaCorp’s green initiative has launched for ninth year with a brand new campaign to raise public awareness of environmental issues.The campaign’s focus this year is on the alarming amount of waste that Singapore generates each year in food (785 million kg), plastic (824 million kg) and electronic (100 million kg). Its message: By changing our habits and reducing waste, we can reduce global warming.An integral part of the Saving Gaia campaign is the popular and catchy ‘Save my World’ ditty. Last year, a special green superhero mascot ‘Little Gaia’ was created to personify the campaign. This year, Mediacorp celebrities including Jayley Woo, Desmond Tan and Vernetta Lopez have lent their voices to the new animated music video as animal characters.https://youtu.be/s4pIQ238PFc[gallery link="file" ids="138506,138505,138504"]As a reminder to everyone to go ‘green’, the logos of Mediacorp’s key platforms including television channels, websites and social media sites will adopt a green hue – symbolising the environment – for 24 hours on 5 June in celebration of World Environment Day.  For the month of June, Mediacorp TV and online platforms will also feature ‘green’ content to educate and spread the message. The full programme listing can be found in the Annex.To reduce carbon emissions, Saving Gaia is collaborating with Singapore’s first carpooling app RYDE to encourage the public to use the app to share a ride and stand to win petrol vouchers and free car rides.Also, 45 Mediacorp staff volunteers cleaned up a stretch of beach along Pasir Ris Beach on Saturday 4 June and collected 33 trash bags of litter weighing 354.5kg.
