Media Prima's Johan Ishak joins Awesome TV as MD

Former Media Prima Television Network CEO Johan Ishak has joined Awesome Media Network (Awesome TV) as managing director. In his new role, Johan will be responsible for the overall operations of Awesome TV and strengthening its core business of providing high quality fresh content, in-line with the company’s long -term strategy and goal for the channel. The appointment is part of its plans to ensure a smooth process and all systems go once the channel officially goes on air.

Awesome TV is scheduled to launch by this year on the free-to-air platform MYTV and is said to offer diverse, fun and entertaining content. These include drama series, talk shows, sit coms and kids content.

In a statement to A+M, Johan said generating smiles and laughter are the key elements that drives the company forward. “We envision ourselves to be the focal point that injects humour, fun and excitement in all Malaysians so we can take on the day with optimism and positivity,” he said.

According to Johan, its target audience are mass Malaysians, from children and young adults to the golden generation. "Today, content distribution is about storytelling, fast moving data driven marketing and generating a lot of viewer excitement as well as anticipation. We are looking to leverage on strategic consumer touchpoints across the digital and traditional platforms in order to reach out to our audience ad make our presence known nationwide," Johan added.

During his time at Media Prima, Johan oversaw TV3, ntv7, 8TV, TV9, tonton and CJ Wow Shop. Before that, he was CEO of MyCreative Ventures, spurring the growth of entrepreneurs within the Malaysian creative industry. Meanwhile, CEO Adam Ilyas said Johan will bring an incredible wealth of knowledge in media operations and business transformation.
