Hong Kong authorities have urged news media outlets from the city, Guangzhou and Macau to team up on offering accurate, fair, and vivid coverage of China’s achievements, creating a compelling narrative about the country.

Hong Kong deputy secretary for administration Warner Cheuk Wing-hing said during a speech at an event on Sunday, that the three regions have close relationships in trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges. "Through deepened cooperation, the three core regions in the Greater Bay Area will significantly contribute to national development," he added.

He added, “The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area is a strategic fulcrum for the country's new development pattern, a demonstration site for high-quality development, and a leading place for Chinese-style modernisation. “

Cheuk also reminded journalists from these regions of President Xi Jinping’s strategies to enhance China’s global image and strengthen cultural soft power.

“By providing accurate, multi-dimensional, fair, and vivid reports, we record history, highlight the nation's achievements, and tell the stories of the three regions and the country to the world,” he said.

Meanwhile, the sudden popularity of the Chinese artificial intelligence app DeepSeek has shaken up the world of AI, with some industry players comparing it with its rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT and questioning if it would threaten the dominance of AI leaders such as Nvidia - which has already taken a hit on its stock.

Cheuk said the launch of the Chinese AI app was impressive and it serves as a prime example of China’s potential for technological advancement. “[This] fully reflects the nation's huge potential in science and technology, and shows that the unreasonable sanctions imposed by the United States on China in the fields of computer chips and lithography machines are ineffective and petty,” he said.

On the cultural front, Cheuk applauded the success of high-performance AI technology and the Chinese film Ne Zha 2, which topped the global box office for animated films.

The event has been held for 17 consecutive times since 2004, and has gradually become an important platform for journalists from Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau to enhance mutual understanding, exchange and cooperation.
