McDonald’s MY wins big at Marketing’s Asia eCommerce Awards

McDonald's Malaysia claimed the throne at Marketing magazine’s second annual Asia eCommerce Awards, beating off stiff competition to clinch the title of “eCommerce Brand of the Year”.

McDonald's Malaysia took home four gold, one silver and one bronze award across Best in eCommerce (Brands) – Food & Beverage, Best eCommerce Loyalty Programme, Best eCommerce Campaign – Content Marketing, Best eCommerce Campaign – Influencers, Best eCommerce Campaign – Mobile and Best eCommerce Campaign – Social Media. “Filling the Hunger Gaps with McDelivery”, “Building Loyalty Through Gamification”, “Got a Problem? Chill La, We Deliver!” and “Catching Nonando – The First Facebook Augmented Reality Game in Malaysia” were the four campaigns that really stood out to the judges.

Coming in a very close second was Chevron Singapore, which impressed the judges with its “CaltexGO App” and took home a notable two gold, one silver and one bronze trophy. AirAsia BIG Loyalty, Central JD Commerce, DBS Bank, Harman International and Tata Group came in joint third position. AirAsia BIG Loyalty, Harman International and Tata Group bagged two gold and one silver award each, while Central JD Commerce claimed two gold and two bronze awards and DBS Bank brought home one gold and three silver trophies. Other long-standing brands such as Singtel, JASPAL Group, XIXILI Intima, Razer, GSK Thailand, Incomem, Luxasia, Lazada/Redmart and Digi Telecommunications also gave strong performances and certainly didn’t leave empty-handed.

Two other overall titles were awarded on the night to recognise the eRetailers and agencies that reflect the breadth and creativity of the ecommerce industry. Central JD Commerce was named the eCommerce eRetailer of the Year and BORN Group took home the title of eCommerce Agency of the Year.

Central JD Commerce (pictured below) secured two gold and two bronze awards for the outstanding campaign “Targeted Gift” across Best in eCommerce (eRetailer) – Lifestyle & Travel, Best eCommerce Solution, Best eCommerce Innovation and Best eCommerce Campaign – Social Media categories. GSK Thailand claimed second place and secured three awards in all three categories it was shortlisted in, taking home one gold and two bronze trophies for the categories, Best in eCommerce (Brands) – Beauty, Best in eCommerce (eRetailer) – Health & Beauty and Best eCommerce Consultant with its “Pioneering Online Growth” campaign. Coming in at a close third was Lazada/Redmart having claimed one gold and one bronze trophy for its campaigns “RedMart – Growth Post-Merger” and “Lazada/Redmart Content Marketing”.

BORN Group (pictured below) took home five gold, nine silver and three bronze trophies. Across the a total of 12 campaigns, two campaigns that really impressed the judges, "Digital & Omnichannel Transformation Consulting" with the partnership with JASPAL Group won two gold trophies and the partnership with Digi Telecommunications for "Digi eCommerce & CX" campaign won two silver trophies.

Coming in second place was IDOTYOU which shone in the categories, Best in eCommerce (Brands) – Food & Beverage, Best eCommerce Loyalty Programme, Best eCommerce Campaign – Content Marketing, Best eCommerce Campaign – Influencers, Best eCommerce Campaign – Mobile and Best eCommerce Campaign – Social Media, and took home four gold, one silver and one bronze.

Claiming joint third place were BBDO Worldwide, DKSH eCommerce and Maxis eCommerce. Through its partnership with Central JD Commerce, BBDO Worldwide walked away with two gold and two bronze trophies in the Best in eCommerce (eRetailer) – Lifestyle & Travel, Best eCommerce Solution, Best eCommerce Innovation and Best eCommerce Campaign – Social Media categories.

Meanwhile, DKSH eCommerce secured one gold, two silver and two bronze awards in the Best in eCommerce (Brands) – Beauty, Best in eCommerce (eRetailer) – Health & Beauty, Best in eCommerce (eRetailer) – Lifestyle & Travel, Best eCommerce Consultant and Best eCommerce Campaign – Mobile. Additionally, Maxis eCommerce won one gold and three silver awards in the Best in eCommerce (Brands) – Fashion & Apparel, Best in eCommerce (Brands) – Home & Living, Best eCommerce Campaign – Social Media and Best Integrated eCommerce Campaign categories.

The winners were decided by a 39-strong judging panel comprised of senior digital eCommerce and marketing professionals from renowned brands including Abbott, AIA, Alibaba.com, Central Group, Coca-Cola, Decathlon Cambodia, foodpanda, FWD, Income, Kellogg Asia Pacific, Lazada, Marriott International, McDonald's Corporation, National Australia Bank, Procter & Gamble, Qoo10, Razer, Samsung, Sanofi, Shopee, The Body Shop India, Yum! Brands (KFC Asia), and many more. A number of clear winners emerged but the judges were delighted to see efforts from a variety of fields developing eCommerce campaigns to promote, facilitate and enable sustainable client-brand relationships.
