Maybank's Adam Wee Abdullah joins CIMB in a top role

Mohamed Adam Wee Abdullah, has joined CIMB Group as group chief marketing officer.

Wee reports to Tengku Dato’ Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz group chief executive officer / executive director of CIMB Group.

Wee oversees the group's entire marketing and communications initiatives, and lead franchise-wide efforts to ensure a consistent and differentiated CIMB brand for all of the group’s businesses across the region.

Wee succeeds Effendy Shahul Hamid who was previously CIMB group's CMO.

Effendy is now CEO of group asset management & investments where he oversees all of CIMB group’s asset management and investments business across both public and private markets. This includes CIMB group’s regional asset management business (CIMB-Principal), its private equity fund management business and the group’s strategic investments portfolio in companies such as Touch n Go and Bank of Yingkou.

Wee is a veteran in the marketing field with a career spanning more than 25 years.  He has held senior and regional positions working on a diverse range of categories which included financial services, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), hospitality and travel, automotive, property and telecommunications sectors as well as managing category leading brands.

Prior to Maybank, he was CMO of Sunrise Berhad. Before that he was at Astro for six years where he last served as director, brand management - strategy department. Wee also served as director of account management at BBDO Malaysia following his role as regional marketing manager at BMW Group.
