Commemorating Hari Kebangsaan (Independence Day) and Malaysia Day, Maybank has unveiled a MYStories campaign titled “SEMAI” which means plant. The campaign film features Cikgu Kula, a retired teacher who currently manages the poultry farm. In his 38 years of service, the teacher nurtured 1500 students who are now change-makers contributing to the welfare, stability and development of the country. The spot revolves around three of his past students – a national hockey coach, medical practitioner and village head – who share snippets of their learning journey guided by Cikgu Kula. According to Maybank, while the past has helped pave the way, the present continues to contribute to the development of the nation. Keeping this in mind, the campaign aims to encourage acts of goodwill to emulate the true Malaysian spirit.Abdul Farid Alias, group president and CEO of Maybank said that Cikgu Kula is an example to articulate that as a teacher who worked tirelessly for 38 years, he wants nothing but success for his students in education, career and life. “Some deeds cannot be repaid and the best that we can do is to pay forward that act of kindness to inspire the next generation to build a better nation,” Abdul said, adding that the bank also wanted to stay true to its purpose “humanising the role of financial services in peoples’ lives”.“Remembering the main objective of our MYStories campaign of providing a platform for our unsung heroes, we would like to take this opportunity to thank those who have inspired us to be the person we are today. Our leaders, parents, teachers, colleagues and those who have touched our lives,” he said.In line with its move to pay tribute to unsung heroes, Maybank has also launched an on-ground donation drive for dedicated NGO for former Malaysian athletes called Yayasan Atlet Kebangsaan (YAKEB). A+M has reached out to Maybank for additional information.
