Malaysian YouTubers S. Pavithra and M. Sugu, who rose to fame during the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia earlier this year, plan to make a comeback on the afternoon of 27 July. Quoting husband Sugu, Bernama reported that he had removed all 98 videos "after what happened". Just last week, Sugu was charged for assaulting his wife Pavithra using a mobile phone and a sickle, Bernama said.
Following the deletion of the videos, Sugu said the couple also lost their YouTube income which was a substantial amount. According to Bernama, the couple had about 420k subscribers on YouTube on 8 May. The recent charge also led to the couple refusing recognition awards moving forward, with the couple adding that they want to focus on creating videos for the channel. Pavithra was recently recognised as this year's Ipoh City icon by the Ipoh City Council, Bernama reported, and she added that there are other more talented individuals in various fields who deserve the recognition.
Earlier this month, the YouTube couple met Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin who gifted them cooking utensils, a camera tripod, microwave oven and rice cooker. Based in Ipoh, the couple's following skyrocketed during the MCO as a result of their how-to videos for local recipes. The couple also received the Silver Play Button for hitting the 100,000 subscribers mark earlier this month, six months after joining the platform. The YouTube channel had about 786k subscribers at the time of writing.
Meanwhile like most famous individuals, the YouTube couple also fell victim to imposters accounts. In May, they denied creating Facebook and Instagram accounts bearing the same name as their YouTube channel. They also urged followers to report the accounts as "irresponsible people might take advantage of this", Pavithra added, The Star said.
