Malaysian retailer fined for watch ad being too sexy

Swee Cheong Watch & Pen Co has been reportedly fined by the Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) in Malaysia, according to The Star.

The posters causing the offense were supplied by manufacturers, Lee said to the Malaysian news source. They are of famous Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai posing for Longines (pictured), a Swiss watch brand and two models posing for fashion brand Guess’ watch line.

The owner was told to pay the fines before he started operating the shop in Aeon Mall in April. Lee also runs two similar outlets at Tesco and KB Mall in Kota Baru. He was told that he committed the offence more than 10 times since the 1990s.

The fines have added up to as high as RM2,000, but he eventually paid RM400 before he was allowed to apply for a new permit for his new shop at Aeon Mall.
