Malaysian and digital brands dominate YouGov BrandIndex ranking

Malaysian brands AirAsia and Maybank have been listed among the top 10 for YouGov's annual BrandIndex Buzz ranking, coming in third (46.8 out of 100) and ninth (41) respectively. Meanwhile, Southeast Asian digital brands Lazada and Shopee nabbed the second and sixth spots respectively.

Coming out on top for the fourth year in the row was WhatsApp. Also making the top 10 BrandIndex Buzz ranking were McDonald's (45.1), Huawei (43.8), KFC (42.2), YouTube (41.4) and Instagram (40.2).

The YouGov BrandIndex measures the public's perception of brands on a daily basis across a range of measures. The annual rankings are compiled using Buzz scores from across all 52 weeks of 2018. The Buzz scores measure whether consumers have heard anything good or bad about a brand during the previous two weeks.

In addition to being ranked among the top 10, Shopee was had the most improved Buzz score with an increase of 29.6 points. Coming in second was Huawei with a 12.3 increase in score, followed by PROTON (11.4), McDonald's (10.2) and Perodua (8.2).
