Trending in Singapore right now is the brilliant new hashtag #SG50ShadesOfGrey. The hashtag combines the current buzz of the huge #SG50 event this year with the steamy launch of the movie 50 Shades of Grey.
Over the course of the weekend, the hashtag had gotten enough hits for it to become an international phenomenon being covered by global and local press. Singaporeans had no qualms showing their cheeky creative side online. Jokes online ranged from the haze to local delicacies and rising ERP prices.
According to data shared by Twitter, there have been nearly 69,000 tweets since the hashtag topic first started on 11 February. The tweets reached its peak of 69 tweets per minute at 11:31pm on Valentine's Day (no pun intended, guys).
Local low cost carrier Scoot and OCBC's youth brand FRANK were one of the first few brands to leverage on the trending hashtag.
While Marketing was unable to find other brands that had jumped onto this opportunity at the time of writing, here are some brands that got some mentions from consumers.
Taking a queue from Singapore, two other international hashtags have since popped up #MNL50ShadesOfGrey and #HK50ShadesOfGrey.
