Samsung’s exclusive partnership with Jay-Z to encourage people to download a mobile app has failed, beaten by music pirates.
Fans were able to listen to the album directly on the app for free yesterday – three days before the official release.
But a pirate release of the full album was already out on YouTube on 3 July.
Samsung’s effort for exclusivity is understandable, especially when it’s trying to steal the spotlight from fierce competitors like Apple’s new iRadio, Google’s Pandora, Spotify and upstarts like Grooveshark, 8tracks and Songza.
