AXA Mandiri and AXA Indonesia have brought Liverpool FC legends Sami Hyypiä and Natasha Dowie to Bali for a youth coaching clinic aimed at promoting preparation, resilience and inclusion among Indonesian children.
The initiative, held in Sanur, was organised as part of AXA Mandiri Financial Services, AXA Financial Indonesia and AXA Insurance Indonesia’s partnership with Liverpool FC as the club’s official global training partner, in collaboration with LFC Retail Indonesia.
Hyypiä, the former Liverpool defender who helped the club win the 2005 UEFA Champions League, and Dowie, who was the Women’s Super League’s top scorer in 2013 and helped Liverpool Ladies win the league title that year, took part in training sessions, interactive games and experience-sharing activities with children with disabilities, children supported by local non-governmental organisations and young players from local football academies.

Held at an international-standard training facility on Bali’s Sanur coast, the clinic used football to introduce participants to lessons around teamwork, discipline, perseverance and resilience.
The sessions followed a “train, challenge, learn and try again” approach, with participants learning fundamental football skills while being encouraged to build confidence and keep working through setbacks.
For AXA, the activity connects the preparation required in sport with its broader messaging around risk preparedness and protection.
“In football and everyday life, preparation is key. An athlete trains every day to anticipate the various possibilities that may occur on the field. The same principle applies in life. We cannot always predict the risks that may arise, but we can prepare ourselves to face them. Therefore, AXA Mandiri believes that education, preparation and protection are important parts of helping people become more resilient and ready to face the future,” said Handojo G. Kusuma, president director of AXA Mandiri.
He also linked the activity to AXA Mandiri’s “Melangkah pasti” brand campaign, which encourages people to prepare for the future with appropriate protection.
Niharika Yadav, president director of AXA Financial Indonesia, said the clinic was intended to give young participants lessons that extend beyond football.
“This initiative is part of our commitment to promoting wellbeing and healthy lifestyles among the community. We believe that with proper preparation, perseverance and strong determination, everyone has the opportunity to achieve their dreams and face the future with greater confidence,” Yadav said.
The involvement of Hyypiä and Dowie also placed inclusion at the centre of the activity, with the former players encouraging participants to build confidence, show courage and push beyond perceived limitations under AXA’s “Know you can” philosophy.
“Aligned with the 'Know you can' spirit, through this initiative AXA Mandiri, AXA Financial Indonesia and AXA Insurance Indonesia seek to support the creation of a more inclusive environment, where every child, including children with disabilities and those from diverse backgrounds, has an equal opportunity to grow, realise their potential and become individuals ready to face the challenges of the future,” said Peili Zhang, director of AXA Insurance Indonesia.
